Why Is Temporary Fixing Critical in Composite Manufacturing?

In the production of composite reinforcement is one of the most critical steps before resin. Temporary fixing; prevents the sliding, spreading and degradation of the layers while installing the vacuum bag. But used tackifier should be compatible with the ultimate resin system and process.

Why does location failure grow?

A small fiber slip can be folded in the next layers, bridge, local thickness change or dry zone risk. Gravity in vertical and complex geometries, the rest of the fabric and the operator movement increases this risk. Controlled tack should ensure adequate retention of the part without permanent bonding and allow reposition when necessary.

The laminate effect of the choice of Tackifier

Temporary adhesive can be effective on resin weting, flow facade and intermediate layer behavior, as it will remain in the final laminate. Therefore, the product and manufacturer technical data for the composite process instead of a general purpose aerosol should be preferred. Resin type, curing temperature, fiber weight and application grammar should be confirmed together.

Application quantity and pattern

More tack is not always safer. Excessive application can restrict resin access, create local accumulation and improve cost. A light, uniform and defined spray pattern; it should be applied in only critical spots or planned areas. Operator distance should be standardized by the standby procedure between the passing speed and floors.

Process verification plan

Starting from small coupon tests, tack strength, reposition, resin whistling and after curing mechanical performance is evaluated. Then the vacuum leaks on the actual geometry or representational mold, the fabric slip and flow time are monitored. Final approval should be given with the admission criteria of resin and composite manufacturer.

Application control list

  • Identify fiber, resin and curing cycle together.
  • Set the minimum effective tackifier grammage.
  • Test reposition requirement.
  • Verify the flow and spin on the mold after the coupon.
  • Standardize application distance and spray pattern.

Conclusion

Temporary fixing is not only easy to assemble; it is a process control that protects fiber architecture and therefore final parts quality.
