What Is the Difference Between an SDS and a TDS?

SDS and TDS can be prepared for the same product, but respond to different questions. Safety Information Form (SDS) carries the dangers of the product, safe use, storage, first aid, fire, exposure and disposal information. What is SDS used for?

SDS contains sections such as classification, hazard expressions, composition knowledge, first aid, fire fighting, spilling, handling-Storage, exposure control, physical properties, stability and transportation. Occupational health-safety is the basic document for risk assessment, emergency and storage plan. Current local language and revision requirements should be checked.

What is TDS used for?

TDS product contains technical information such as chemistry, color, viscosity, density, open time, curing or setting behaviour, recommended temperature, surface preparation, typical strength and shelf life. Format can vary according to manufacturer. Test condition of values and typical-specificity should be read carefully.

One does not replace the other

A product can perform perfectly in TDS, but SDS may require certain ventilation, personal protection or storage. Low dangerous classification to the sweat does not mean good bond on each surface. The product approval process EHS requires both documents of quality, maintenance and production units in its own responsibility.

Document control

Product name, code, supplier, editing-revision date and country version should be matched. Documents are kept in the central system with version controlled; the risk assessment and process instruction effect should be examined when new revision comes. With the product in the label, the document on the file should be viewed in the field control.
